La Voyageuse

Etel, Brittany, France

Brittany is often referred to as wild France. And the Bretons are a special people. Above all, they are very hospitable and love the sea more than anything.

La Voyageuse is a whitewashed former fisherman's house from the 1930s, typical of the region. Twenty years ago the previous owner, a well-known French photographer, completely remodeled it. Anneliese and Michael have renovated the house again and have been hosting guests here since 2023. The house with the very tasteful furnishings and the view of the secret garden is a real refuge for those seeking peace and creativity.

The harmonious combination of old and new is reflected in the bright rooms with a special selection of charming antiques and Danish decoration. With five bedrooms and four bathrooms, the house offers enough space for large families, friends or seminar groups who want to be creative together in the adjacent studio. If you want, you can even book a mindfulness meditation session with host Annelise.

The house is just a few minutes' walk from the marina, some shops and the weekly market. Kilometers of hiking and cycling trails in the area lead along the sea or through the forest. There are also really nice excursions to the Quiberon peninsula and its so-called “Côte Sauvage” (wild coast), the opposite island of Belle-Île-en-Mer, which is ideal for cycling, sophisticated places like Carnac and Auray for strolling and the enchanting harbor from La Trinité-sur-Mer for good restaurants with fresh seafood. Brittany is simply wild, beautiful and very diverse.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe recent renovation of the house was carried out according to ecological principles - insulation with natural materials, eco-friendly paints, up- and recycling of furniture, taps to control water consumption, high-quality bedding from Brittany and an eco-friendly wood stove.

FoodVegetables from the garden and eggs from the chickens are used as much as possible for the seminar catering. There are vegetarian dishes and attention is paid to avoiding waste. If waste does occur, it ends up in the compost.

The gardening and laundry tasks are assigned to ESAT, a work integration center for people in difficulties or with disabilities. The few service providers that are regularly used (cleaning and handyman services) come from the local community. They are also members of the LPO, the state association for bird protection.

EnvironmentCleaning is done with a professional steam cleaner. Recycling is made easy for guests. There are also OEKO-TEX certified bed linen and towels. Ecological liquid soap and dishwashing detergent are also available to guests.
