La Botte

Nardò, Apulia, Italy

"Are we here in Italy at all?" One might ask when looking at all these whitewashed houses with flat roofs full of terraces. But still: this is Italy too. Namely at the very bottom of the heel of the boot in Salento, part of Puglia.

This actually has little in common with the Adriatic and Tuscany. Here there are houses in the Greek style, here there are even people who speak an ancient Greek-influenced recognized minority language and here there is a sea as turquoise and clear as in Greece. But the “dolce far niente” and the food, of course, is the incomparable Italian!

And the apartment La Botte is incomparably beautiful. It is located in a building that used to belong to a monastery complex and the sacredness of these halls with their often high vaulted ceilings and stucco-decorated columns can still be felt today in the newly renovated rooms. Not least probably because there is one or the other antique church furniture among the modern furnishings.

Apart from that, you are surrounded by light-colored walls and original stone floors, old doors and the blue sky above the shady courtyard and the flat roof terrace. The Ionian Sea is only 6 km away and many very interesting sights are also nearby.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe buildings around the 17th century Piazetta La Rosa are nested. Everything has been lovingly renovated, with special attention to the preservation of existing materials and details. In some cases, the original Coccio pesto floor was given a new shine and many doors and windows are from a long time ago. Some new furnishing elements have been made from regional wood by local artisans and result in a harmonious mixture with various flea market furniture and many natural textiles and other natural materials.

EnvironmentThere is hot water from the solar panel to which the washing machines are also connected. The frugal succuleles in the courtyard are poured with rainwater and cleaned with vinegar and other natural means. Employees and guests are required to separate waste and will be informed about energy savings in air conditioning and lighting upon arrival.
